Twitter Continues To Expand, But I Have One Last Question

As twitter continues to expand, I now have one last question. All of these other websites such as Tweetake, BigTweet, Twhirl, Twilert, Twitterholic etc. all in tandem with Twitter? Or are these websites spin-offs of twitter that help you with your twitter account?
